Light Tackle Boat Angling

Cape Town Angling Clubs history in light tackle boat angling spans deep into the clubs history with anglers competing on both a national and international level throught the years.

Although today the LTB facet is relatively small, Cape Town Angling Club has active memebers  that participate at a national, Federation and international level.

THIS IS HOW IT WORKS:

COMPETITION SPECIFICATIONS:

LTB in Western Province is fished in two legs: 4 leagues in freshwater and 4 leagues in the sea.

Freshwater series

All fish that are caught during a freshwater competition are kept in keep nets and are brought in for counting and weighing at weigh-in.

All fish count 1 point per kg.

Sea series

Conservation plays a very big part of Saltwater angling and therefore all catches are measured and released immediately.

The points for the saltwater division are allocated as 1 point per kg for a shark and 5 points per kg for an edible fish

All points are added to determine the competition winner who is then allocated 100 points. Second place gets 99 points and so on.

LOCATION

Saltwater competitions are generally fished in Langebaan, Velddrift and Gordons Bay

Freshwater competitions are mostly fished at Misvertand dam, Theewaterskloof dam and Kwaggaskloof dam.

TIME

The light tackle boat angling calendar runs differently to the freshwater bankangling, feeder angling and rock and surf angling calendar.

The Light tackle boat season starts mid year and runs until the mid year of the following year.

TACKLE & SET-UP

Light tackle boat angling is fished off of a boat with two anglers per boat and two fishing rods per angler.

What makes LTB unique is that the angler may only use a IGFA line of a maximum of 4kgs.

Angers are only allowed a leader of 1.5m which makes landing big fish difficult and this takes a lot of skill to land bigger barble and sharks.

COST

LTB unfortunately is a very costly sport as it is expensive to run a boat and equipment.

This has made the number of anglers reduce in the last years.
