Our club calendar is set up to run in accordance with the Western Province and South African Freshwater Bank Angling Association calendars to ensure that no one misses out on a competition.

Cape Town Angling Club is also a very active memeber at a provincial and national level, entering a number of teams into the Western Province inter-club leagues as well as members that participate at a national, Federation and international level.

THIS IS HOW IT WORKS:

COMPETITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Over-night series

The first three comptitions of every year fall into the Overnight series.

Overnight competitions start at 12pm on Saturday afternoon and end on Sunday mornings at 10am.

Overnight competitions are a great family weekend away camping at the waters edge while you wait for the monsters of the night to take your bait. Over-night competitions not only allow for an extended angling time, more lenient rules and access to restricted dams, but provide anglers with the opportunity to catch fish early morning, late evening and all through the night in a safe and friendly environment.

There is an individual winner for every overnight competition as well as an overall champion for the entire overnight series.

Pegged series

Pegged series competitions are single day competitions that run from 8am - 4pm.

Every competition is fished at a different location to expose anglers to different species and fishing conditions.

At pegged series competitions two individuals fish together on the same peg. Each angler is only allowed TWO fishing rods with TWO hooks on each rod. At the end of the competition day all your fish are counted and weighed to determine your score and overall standing. At the Annual Cape Town Angling Club Prizegiving there are a number of awards and trophies that area handed out to dam champions, most fish, heaviest fish, biggest bag, individual winners in each category as well as overall individual winners and teams who fulfilled the competition specific objectives.

Competition objectives are specific to certain competitions and add an element of fun in growing and expanding the CTAC family.

  • Challenge cup - The points from all three facets are added together to determine the ultimate angler

  • Family Cup - Two family memebers fish together and their results are added together to determine the ultimate fishing family

  • Skins competition - A day competition where a new competition is held every hour to determine who caught the most fish each hour.

SPECIES

In the Western Cape the most predominant species caugh is Carp and Barbel with a odd Kurper and Bluegill being caught here and there. In some dams in the Western Cape with have the Cape Witvis. The Witvis is an endangered species and therefore we have to follow strict protocol set by Cape Nature when handling these fish. Lucky anglers have caught Bass in the past but not on any artificial lures or spinners as these are prohibited.

LOCATION

Club competitions are fished in and around the Western Cape.

TIME

Pegged series competitions run on a saturday with lines in a 8am and lines up at 4pm.

Before every competition, all anglers meet at a general point where registration will take place. Registration will differ from dam to dam but the general briefing time is 7am.  Once registered for the days activities, the rules and objectives for the day are read out and the peg numbers are drawn before heading off to your allocated fishing area.

COST

There is a R30 per person competition fee that must be payable at the start of every competition attended. Overnight competitions hold a competition fee of R30 per angler. This money is collected and put aside as prizes at the end of the competition.

When there are dams that have a entrance fee, anglers will be informed of this additional payment before hand.
